Vascular Treatment for Facial and Leg veins

What is the difference between Spider veins, Reticular veins and Varicose veins?

Spider veins (telangiectasia) are small (1mm diameter), superficial purple or red broken dilated capillaries often irregular in shape; similar to a spider’s web. Telangiectasia may appear anywhere on the body, but are more commonly found on the face and legs. Reticular veins are the deeper, thicker (2-3mm diameter) darker veins found on face, thighs and lower legs.  Reticular (feeder) veins are larger than spider veins and by eliminating reticular veins will in turn help to reduce spider veins. Varicose veins are lumpy, swollen veins that protrude above the skin’s surface. Generally found on the legs, varicose veins are the result of faulty vein valves or weak vein walls. The veins in the legs have the toughest job of carrying blood back to the heart. They endure the most pressure; pressure that can overcome the strength of these one-way valves. The force of gravity, and the task of carrying the blood from the bottom of the body up to the heart make the legs the primary location for varicose and spider veins.

How does the treatment work?

The laser energy is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the vein which then collapses and is eliminated by the body. When the laser light is absorbed, it is converted into heat causing the walls of the veins to collapse and blood flow to cease. The laser light achieves vein removal by destroying the vein but without causing damage to the surrounding skin.

Are these vein treatments permanent?

The effective removal of spider and reticular veins varies depending on your medical and lifestyle history. Whilst the veins that have been treated will be removed others may appear in years to come but not necessarily in the same area.

Are the treatments painful?

During the treatments, you may feel a slight tingling or warmth from the laser as it pulses.
The area is cooled during treatment to ensure comfort.

How many treatments will I need?

We can treat a significant number of veins during one session. Treatments are carried out at 8 weekly intervals with a recommendation of between 2-6 sessions. The number of treatments required varies with the size and depth and location of each vein.

What are the benefits?

Our advanced technology minimizes the redness and bruising normally associated with traditional treatments. Best of all, our technology allows us to treat people of any ethnic origin and skin type.

When will I see some results?

The appearance of leg veins will either dramatically fade or completely disappear during the treatment. Some vessels may show temporary swelling that will subside after a few hours to a few days. The redness of the treated vessels will gradually disappear as the healing process occurs. This may take between two and eight weeks.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately following the procedure you may experience some redness and mild swelling in the treated area. These effects will dissipate within a few days. Also, although it is not the intended purpose of this particular treatment, hair growth may be impaired in the treated area. In some instances the larger veins may be more noticeable after treatment as they coagulate and gradually disperse.

Is laser treatment safe?

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that laser treatment can lead to skin problems or potential skin cancer risks. Our clinic is registered with the Healthcare Commission and our medical staff are fully trained to ensure that your safety is priority.
